Following is repetition of Mission Hankow telegram No.503
begins:
Addressed to Hongkong No.54.
Madame Chiang Kai-shek has made formal application to
Your Excellency through me for permission to have assembled
in Hongkong and flown thence to China a Boeing 247 aeroplane
which is her property and recently arrived at Hongkong from
Australia. Madame Chiang Kai-shek understands that Hongkong
authorities are reluctant to allow aeroplane to be assembled
because it is armed. She offers assurance that it will be
used for purely transportation purposes and authorizes Hongkong
Government to confiscate arms if necessary.
I should be grateful if you would enable me to reply as
soon as possible.
Repeated to Embassy Shanghai.
